明徳寺東司まつり

伊豆の三大奇祭のひとつである『東司祭り』は、約500年前から祀られる、『東司（便所）』の守護神、烏枢沙摩明王の例大祭。不浄のものを浄化し清める神様です。
下のお世話にならない極楽浄土を祈願する、珍しいお祭りです。

The annual sumo festival is held in the Meitokuji temple, a temple which the guardian deity of the “toilet” purifies all unclean things. Teams of three people can participate in a team (as long as they work or live within Izu city) and compete against each other in the sumo tournament.
